14 Aug Lavender Infused Olive Oil

Hello! I’m back with a new video that I started filming earlier this summer and now it’s finally done. It takes several weeks to make Lavender Infused Olive Oil so therefore I couldn’t finish the video until yesterday when I filmed the last steps of the process. And you’ll see my dog Hälge in the video as well. He’s the cutest and craziest dog ever, but in this video he’s only cute!

You can use lavender oil in your bath, on your skin and for baking. If you’re anything like me you love everything “lavendery”. I know I just made up that word but I think it’s suitable and therefore it’s okay to use it! I recently made this chocolate olive oil cake which was amazing and I think that you could replace some of the olive oil to lavender oil to make a CHOCOLATE LAVENDER OLIVE OIL CAKE! It sounds so delicious that I have to use capital letters. Sorry about that. Maybe I’ll make a cake like that someday..? I guess only time will tell…

How To Make Lavender Infused Olive Oil

How To Make Lavender Infused Olive Oil

Ingredients

  • Enough lavender to fill a jar (fresh or dried)
  • Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Pick lavender and save 18 cm(7 inches) of the stems.
  2. Make bouquets and tie a rubber band around the stems and tie a ribbon on top so that you can hang them.
  3. Hang them in a warm and sunny place(preferably a window) for 2 weeks, until they're completely dry.
  4. Strip the flowers of the stems and put them in a jar. Fill the jar almost to the top.
  5. Then cover the flowers with olive oil and fill it up to the top. Put the lid on and shake.
  6. Place the jar in a window sill that will see a good amount of sun. Let it sit there for 3-6 weeks.
  7. Pour the oil through a cheese cloth and transfer to a glass jar or bottle.

Notes

It's important that the lavender buds are completely dry. If not the oil is likely to become rancid. It seems to be hundreds of different ways to make lavender infused olive oil and this is just one of them. Maybe it's not the "best" method out there but it's the least complicated method I've found and I'm happy with the result.

What a unique flavoring! I’ve seen all sorts of infused oils, but never considered lavender as a possibility. I bet this would be great drizzled over a simple summer salad, too.

Great video! I have lavender growing so will give this a try. Can I use other herbs as well? Maybe make a lavender one and a rosemary version – I’m assuming I would have to dry the rosemary as well. Thanks for the recipe. PS: your dog is very cute.

That sounds wonderful! Just make sure to dry the rosemary before. You can also try making rosemary honey. 🙂
