23 Nov 18th Birthday Chocolate Cake
Hi! I didn’t think I’d manage to post anything today because I’ve been quite busy this weekend. That’s why this post is very short and does not include a recipe. Anyway, it was my 18th birthday this thursday and sadly I didn’t have time to make a cake that day. Yesterday I ran my first 10k race(Stockholm Tunnel Run. Yep, it was in a tunnel!) and I’m so glad I managed to finish the race. Because of the race I didn’t have time to make a cake until today.
In my family we have a tradition of eating cake with strawberries and cream(also known as margaretatårta) when it’s someones birthday. That includes my birthday as well. I know it’s crazy to eat strawberries in november because they’re really expensive and they don’t taste very good. That’s why I made a chocolate cake today. It was hard to not do the traditional cake with strawberries but I think that chocolate cake is more appropriate for november. Maybe I’ve started a new birthday tradition?
You probably think I’m the meanest person in the world right now because I’m posting photos of chocolate cake but not a recipe. It just feels so unnecessary (and I don’t have the time to rewrite a recipe ATM because of biology homework…) because I used this chocolate cake recipe from BBC good food and substituted the flour for a mix of gluten free flours and starches. Then I layered it with chocolate ganache and whipped cream(with a little bit of ganache in it) and topped it with roughly chopped chocolate. My cake came out a little bit too crumbly because I substituted the sour cream with crème fraîche and the batter got a little bit too thick. If you’re using crème fraîche instead of soured cream, make sure to substitute it with some milk to get the right consistency of the cake batter.
Hopefully I’ll have a better recipe for you next week. What do you think about another gluten free bread recipe?
