03 Jun Blood Orange Granola
I’m aware that this post isn’t 100% appropriate for the current season but I actually made this blood orange granola several months ago when the stores were filled with affordable citrus fruits. The citrus season must have been a busy time for me because somehow I forgot to post this recipe. Today I was looking through some old recipes in my folders on my computer and found this blood orange granola. Since I haven’t had time to create a new recipe this week I thought I might as well post this one, because it’s too good not to share.
Notes:
- The blood orange flavor isn’t too intense so you can replace the water with more blood orange juice if you prefer.
- If you don’t have any blood oranges you can replace it with zest and juice from a regular orange.
Blood Orange Granola
Ingredients
- 4 cups GF rolled oats
- 2/3 cup almonds, chopped
- 2/3 cup unhulled sesame seeds
- 2/3 cup pumpkin seeds
- 2/3 cup sunflower seeds
- a pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 blood orange, zest + juice(1/3 cup)
- 1/3 cup goji berries
- 1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 2/3 cup shredded coconut or toasted coconut chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F
- Mix the rolled oats with almonds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and salt in a large bowl.
- Add honey, water, coconut oil and zest and 1/3 cup of juice from one blood orange to the bowl and mix well.
- Spread out on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden. Stir the granola a few times while baking.
- Let cool completely on the tray and mix with the goji berries, dried apricots and coconut. Store in an airtight glass container.

Posted at 17:07h, 03 JuneOk, who cares if it is “inappropriate” for the season – blood orange granola looks AMAZING. Also, I never told you this but I made your earl grey tea granola and it was one of the best granolas I’ve ever had. perfectly seasoned, perfectly crunchy. I’d made granola before but it turned out to be a soggy mess, but your granola was PERFECT. Crunchy, healthy, and smells like earl grey tea!!! This looks equally appealing!!

Posted at 12:50h, 04 JuneIt’s funny – just yesterday my brother and I talked about how nice it is to get something when it’s completely out of season. Like strawberries in the winter and Christmas cookies in May. So citrus fruits now are totally okay for me 😀 Looks and sounds so good!
