02 Jul Upside Down Apricot Cake

My mother loves apricot cake and she always makes it when we're in France. However, this time I've been making it and of course I've made a gluten free version. It's sticky, moist, sweet and packed with flavor. I think that this cake has everything; the almonds give the crunch, the melted butter and brown sugar makes it sticky and the apricots make it moist and sweet. I'm currently reading Bridget Jones's Diary and in the beginning the author dedicates the book to her mother and thank her for not being like Bridget Jones's mother. That gave me the idea to dedicate this sticky...

30 Jun A Visit To The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

A couple of days ago we went to Monte Carlo to visit the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. I didn't have any expectations at all, but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The Oceanographic Institute was founded by Prins Albert I in 1906 and it's comprised of The Oceanographic Museum in Monaco and The Home of the Oceans in Paris. The institute follows the wish of Prins Albert I of "knowing, loving and protecting the oceans". If you want to know more about the museum you can find their website HERE. Everyone in my family was blown away by the beautiful aquariums with fishes, sharks, anemones...

27 Jun Nectarine And Raspberry Cake

I love the combination of nectarines and raspberries, especially in a cake. I wanted to make a naturally sweetened gluten free cake so instead of sugar I used bananas and dates. The cake is very moist and not so sweet. My dad loved it while my little sister dissed it. So it didn't pass the "sugarloving teenager test" but if everyone in the company is over 17 years old I think it'll be a hit. It's best served the same day that it's baked with some vanilla Ice Cream. Possible alternations You could easily make this an "upsidedown" cake by placing the nectarines...

23 Jun No-Churn Honey Ice Cream

At home I have a pantry stocked with different flours, sweeteners, spices etc. It makes me calm to know that I can bake or cook anything and probably have all the ingredients at home, or at least be able to buy them at the grocery store or a health food store. However, here in Provence I have nothing! And neither is it easy to find what I seek in the stores since my french doesn't include words like buckwheat flour, psyllium husk powder or flax seeds. Of course I've used google translate but it doesn't help since they for example have several...

19 Jun Homemade lavender lemonade

My summer holidays has just begun and I'm now in the southern France. The warm weather make me long for something cold and refreshing, like lemonade. In our garden we have both lavender and lemons so I decided to make lavender lemonade and yes, it does taste exactly like lavender smells! It's absolutely amazing...

14 Jun How To Make Your Own Vanilla Extract

Me: Mum. Dad. Could you buy me some vodka? M & D: Why? Me: Because I'm gonna go party all night long and get drunk and then climb a latter and fall and break all my legs and potentially die. No, really, I'm just gonna make vanilla extract. When I asked my parents to buy me vodka I  felt like I was in a swedish commercial about not buying alcohol to minors. It could have been the perfect scene. The fact that I was gonna make vanilla extract would be the ultimate, innocent excuse in order to get my hands on a bottle of...
